Dear Mr. Secretary:
We've recently seen several news reports quoting you as saying that a retired President Bush may be driving a hydrogen-powered pickup truck around his ranch by 2010, 2015 or later.
We have good news.
The American Hydrogen Association (AHA) and the American Lung Association have cooperatively operated a pickup truck that has been running well, performing efficiently, and cleaning the air by using hydrogen fuel for about 27 years. (See picture below.) The pickup has provided roughly 200,000 km of exclusively hydrogen-powered travel. However, if you would send a small budget to pay the cost of sprucing it up and making it ranch-worthy, we would be glad to make it available to President Bush to do ranch chores as he cleans the air in rural Texas.
Veteran Hydrogen Powered Truck

American Hydrogen Association member Rick Wagner shows his son how a hydrogen-powered truck can clean the air while driving. This 1978 Dodge pickup has over 120,000 hydrogen powered miles on it and could be ranch-ready for President Bush before the end of next quarter. No need to wait until 2010, 2015 or later.
If the President likes the results, better performance than the production model, cleans the air while driving, and requires less maintenance, we would be more than happy to provide a renewable hydrogen production facility (to make hydrogen from renewable energy) to fuel the truck or the whole ranch, if the President prefers. This will cost somewhat more but pay for itself in fuel cost savings.
In the early 1960s President Kennedy promised to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade---and succeeded. He demonstrated America's scientific prowess to the world and let everyone know we would out perform the USSR in space. President Bush could quickly show the world that America will not be left behind in renewable energy and our ability to rapidly overcome problems that stem from our dangerously low oil reserves (US has less than 3%; and we steadily increase our current 60% oil import rate.).
He could also promptly show the free world the way to real energy independence. The truck could be ranch-ready by the end of next quarter and he could be fueling the ranch exclusively with clean burning, renewable hydrogen the following year. This symbolic demonstration would be comparable to President Kennedy's legacy because it shows real results on an issue crucial to America's future --the essential transition to renewable energy.
Please let us know if the President is interested in the pickup or transforming the ranch into the first commercial scale, fully solar powered ranch.
Sincerely,
Bill Garrett, President & Roy McAlister, Chairman
